Captain's Responsibilities
SET UP YOUR TEAM

•

Oct 1 - Let NY Squash know your intent to captain a team. We will enter your team online.
• October - Choose a co-captain who will help manage your team and has access to website to enter scores. Let NY Squash know who the co-captain is (can be the club pro).

•

Oct 12 - Create your roster online. You must have at least seven players (current US Squash members) registered by Oct 12 to be included in the schedule. Of those seven, only one may be a sub from a lower level team. You may add additional players during the season.
RESERVE COURTS

•

Oct 24 - Reserve courts for all home matches once match schedule is final. Work with your club pro on this.

•

Host captain is responsible for reserving courts and arranging for payment if applicable. (If you are hosting on your courts but its actually an 'away' game, reserve the courts and collect money from opposing team.)
ORGANIZE YOUR ROSTER

•

Players must be current US Squash members to compete. Remind your players to renew memberships throughout the season. It is impossible to enter match scores for a player with expired membership, so those matches will be automatically recorded as a default.

•

A player may sub up for a higher level team up to three times per season. On the fourth match, that becomes his or her only team going forward. (Exception: a woman may play on both a women's team and a men's team.)

•

Maintain an active roster with enough players ready to play every week. Have alternates available in case of last-minute schedule changes or injury.
COORDINATE MATCHES

•

Talk to opposing captain to confirm court times and lineups, at least three days in advance of the match. You can find opposing captain's contact information on the Teams webpage.

•

No reschedules are allowed. Due to court constraints and players' busy schedules, matches must be played on the assigned night.

•

All matches are scored PAR-11 (Point a Rally, to 11 points), best of five games.

•

Defaults: any team with three ‘team defaults' (where two or more players default in one night) may be expelled.
PLAY MATCHES, REPORT SCORES
• Home Captains supply new balls for matches.

•

All matches are scored PAR-11 (Point a Rally, to 11 points), best of five games.

•

Call a referee if needed. Referees can make matches more fun. Pros use them!
• Captains must enter scores within 48 hours of match, or the match will be automatically defaulted by the system. We recommend that winning captain do this, but captain or co-captain of either team can enter scores. Once scores are entered, opposing captain confirms results or alters for accuracy. If results are altered, originating captain must then confirm. Score disputes should be brought to League Chairs' attention.
KNOW THE RULES
• Review the league rules. Rules keep squash a game of courtesy and honor. Also, following these rules ensures that the league is fair and fun for everyone.
• Ensure your players follow the rules. If a player is showing up late, not calling lets/clearing/giving strokes, or not wearing protective eyewear, address the player to maintain fair play.
