Eddie Standing Squash Racquets Trophy (est. 1962)
for exceptional sportsmanship and excellence of play

2004 Winner: Huw Evans

Huw is the all round Mr. Nice Guy, a transplant into the New York squash scene from his origins in Wales. Huw is the kind of person tournament directors love – he shows up on time, is always courteous on court, calling his own balls down, and following a win he will always referee the next match. When Huw plays matches, people sit in awe of his ability and deft touch on his super soft drops. Huw started out the 2003-2004 season with a win at the MSRA Season Opener and had a 7:2 win:loss ratio in the MSRA men's A league. At the Treddy Ketchum Yale Invitational tournament, Huw surprised the crowd by taking out Akheil Behl in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately he didn't have enough juice in the engine against the fit Andrew Merril in the semi-finals but still gave the match his all. In addition to his successes on court this season, Huw became a mentor for one of the CitySquash team members – a true testament of Huw's selfless personality.
