Eddie Standing Squash Racquets Trophy (est. 1962)
for exceptional sportsmanship and excellence of play

2002 Winner: John Musto

A former winner of the Bigelow cup for outstanding performance in competition, he returned to the New York squash scene, following a 4 year break from tournament play. Taking the number one slot for the Yale team in the MSRA leagues he proved to be an inspiration to the team with an unbeaten record in his 11 league matches. He led the Yale team to the finals of the MSRA Men's A league in a season considered by many to one of the toughest in New York in recent years. By the time our winner walked onto court in the finals against Danny Ezra, the Yale team had already lost, however, he gave the match his all, playing wholeheartedly despite growing fatigue. Having learnt to play at the Yale facility as a youngster and later leading Yale to the 1990 Intercollegiate title, John returned to his roots for this year's S.L. Green event. He has moved into the top 10 in the US rankings and his great sportsmanship was evident in his quarterfinal performance against Damien Walker, providing a memorable match for all onlookers. Regardless of the outcome of his matches, he has a great attitude both on and off court, showing great skill and fairness in his play. He has demonstrated great athleticism and competitiveness in his comeback year, yet remained ever the gentleman.
